My mother says I was born a teacher. Apparently, I spent most of my early years sitting on the floor, surrounded by dolls, giving letter and number lessons on an old Fisher-Price chalkboard.
Today, the chalkboard has given way to white boards, pocket charts and learning centers, while the dolls have been replaced by dozens of bright young faces --
15 half-day kindergarten students
and 90 or so elementary ESL students -- in a
small South Korean town
near the DMZ. Granted, the class picture is somewhat dated, but that's because we rarely waste precious minutes standing around and posing for a camera. We'd far rather be engaged in
life and learning .
Outside the classroom, I'm proudly owned by a
50-pound Boxer
and a
5-pound Maltese .
Oh, and in whatever minutes or hours happen to be left in any given week, I'm a volunteer editor participating in Netscape's Open Directory Project (ODP),
